Completed Extension Frames

We are delighted to be able to publish a photo of the newly machined extension frames for 3840.

These are only the fifth new set of extension frames manufactured since the end of steam. The first set was forged by Heskeths of Halifax for 2999 Lady of Legend and the three later ones, for 3850, 4561 and 6880 Betton Grange, were machined from solid billets 100mm thick as were ours. Note the amount of material left after machining from the solid with the thickness being reduced by around 50% to cater for the bends in the frames. Photos courtesy of our supplier CMS Cepcor.
